Overall this
installation is fairly easy and
straight forward. The Antenna
Installation kit includes all the
parts needed to install an Antenna
in your Honda del Sol - even if you
have NOTHING there. All the mounting
hardware and everything else is
included.
Because most Honda
del Sol owners still have their
stock mounting hardware - it can
simply be re-used. The kit has the
pieces to replace it, but there's
simply no need and replacing the
stock mounting hardware can be
fairly time consuming.
These
instructions do not cover replacing
that hardware - if you need I can
send you the instructions for
replacing that as well.
Step One: Removing
the Factory Antenna (TOP)
In order to make room
for your new antenna you have to
remove your old one.
Start
with the Antenna removal tool (looks
like a small wrench with 2 downward
facing prongs). This wrench fits the
small chrome ring at the base of
your OEM antenna. You have the turn
that ring counter-clockwise. Once
you have turned the ring
sufficiently (it will rise from the
base as it's turned) you should be
able to pull the entire top of the
antenna (everything on the outside
body of the car) away from the
vehicle. This will leave you with
just the parts under the body panel.
NOTE: A
couple customers have had a VERY
hard time removing the Chrome Ring
from the OEM Antenna. Sometimes
it's stuck on there and the antenna
removal tool doesn't help at all.
The best fix for this is to break
off the rest the OEM Antenna Mast
and stick the small ends of a pair
of Needle Nose Pliers into the
notches of the Chrome Ring. With
these you should be able to get it
to turn.

Step Two: Removing
the Factory Antenna (Bottom)
Open the trunk and
pull away the carpeting around the
body panels near the antenna. When
everything is out of the way you
should be able to see the rest of
the antenna. Disconnect the antenna
lead and be sure not to lose it on
the body panel.

There is a single small nut
holding the rest of the antenna
assembly into the mounting hardware.
You should be able to feel it just
down the shaft of the OEM antenna. A
ratchet will help a lot here. Use a
5/16ths wrench or ratchet and remove
this bolt. If you can leave it just
barely in it will help because you
can simply reuse this bolt. Once the
bolt is loose you should be able to
get the remaining antenna assembly
free from the mounting hardware.
Just pull it up and out.

Step Three: Prepping
the new antenna.
In order to install
this antenna you first have to
mildly disassemble it. Like you did
with the OEM antenna, use the
antenna wrench to remove the small
BLACK ring around the base of the
antenna. Pull the black housing free
so that you're just left with the
hardware that looks nearly identical
to what you pulled from UNDER the
body panel. If the drain tube is not
attached, connect it to the bottom
of your new antenna assembly.
Step Four:
Installation (Bottom)
Installation is
nearly identical to removal, except
you simply go in reverse. Position
the new antenna assembly in the car,
placing the drain tube and the base
of your antenna through the mounting
hardware. This hardware simply keeps
the antenna from moving at a weird
angle so it wont matter if it's
tight or not. Remember to re-connect
your antenna lead!
Step Five:
Installation (Top)
Put the black part of
the housing back over the antenna
that sticks out from the opening in
the body panel. You need to align
the small black ring so that you can
screw it back in. Use the antenna
tool to tighten it down and you're
done!
